Accessibility Statement

Website Accessibility on LightRailSites.com

We are committed to providing full and equal access to all parts of our website. This includes ensuring our website:

  • can be navigated and consumed using a keyboard, a mouse, or a screen reader, or any combination of these,
  • can be accessed on any modern web browsing device, including desktop/laptop computers, tablets, and smartphones, and
  • is written using a clear and understandable style.

Here are some of the accessibility features of our website:

Text

The paragraph text on our website uses a minimum size of 16 pixels, and heading text is bold and/or larger in size than paragraph text. All text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 compared to the background behind it, as specified in the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) (Version 2.1, Level AA).

Links

Links use the standard HTML anchor element (<a>) so they are can be discovered and interacted with in a way that all browsers and screen readers understand. Links contained within paragraph text are highlighted using color and an underline. Other links are visually distinct in different ways, such as being styled to look like a button.

Images & Videos

All images that convey meaning relevant to the surrounding content are labeled with alternate text that is intended to be announced by screen reader software. Images that are purely decorative and do not add to the meaning of the surrounding content are explicitly excluded from screen readers by using empty alternate text.

Navigation

Navigating our website should be easy regardless of the page you're on. Each page begins with an initially-hidden "skip to content" link, which can be accessed by pressing the Tab key after loading a page. Clicking this link will shift the keyboard focus past the page header (and any content and links it contains) and to the beginning of the page content.

The "skip to content" link is followed by an initially-hidden "accessibility info" link, which can be accessed by pressing the Tab key twice after loading a page. Clicking this link will take you to our Website Accessibility page with helpful information about website accessibility, as well as instructions on how to contact us with accessibility concerns and improvements.

The third link on every page is a link to our homepage, which is a good place to start if you get lost deeper in the website or just want to start back at the beginning. After that are our main navigation links, pointing to our most important and most-visited pages.

Screen/Device Size

Our website was designed and built to be "responsive" — in other words, it responds to the size and orientation of the device you're using to browse it.

HTML and ARIA Markup

Our website uses proper HTML tags (such as <nav> for navigational elements) and Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) markup to provide more context or information to screen readers and other assistive devices to help them and their users make better sense of the content and elements on the page.

User Device Preferences

Our website respects browser and device preferences, such as an increased default font size and a preference for reduced animation.
